Selamat pagi teman-teman! Recently I was asked to help with a maintenance repair trip to MAF's program in North Kalimantan, Indonesia. It was such a joy getting to work with everyone and help on such a major repair that's keeping the aircraft grounded till it's repaired. Was an extremely busy time with heaps of maintenance work to do, time flew by waaay too fast. Seeing firsthand what an impact MAF is having in this part of the world & getting to know the amazing team working there was such a highlight. It was also very interesting experiencing a new culture, eating lots of new food, & trying to learn Indonesian with the local staff I worked with every day.
Here are a few snippets, I'm trying to get better at remembering to take pictures in the midst of the busyness of all the work and then actually post them....haha it's a work in progress! Hopefully this gives you a glimpse into my time in Indonesia. Next newsletter coming out soon!
Team effort removing the wings on 2nd Kodiak in preparation for repair work needing done on it.
The hangar view. Most days are gloriously sunny with average temps of 35 - 40'C :)
Starting in on the big repair project on Kodiak #1. This drill became an extension of my hand for the weeks I spent removing heaps of rivets! :)
It might not look it.....but this is progress! The picture doesn't show you how much swarf I was covered in every day. :) How many hi-locs, huckbolts and rivets do you think were removed to get to this point? A. Lot.
Had opportunity to join right seat on a medevac flight that MAF received on a Sunday afternoon. View enroute to pick up the patient.
Ambulance was waiting when we landed. Loading up the young boy from the stretcher. Flight back to Tarakan where the main hospital is located was 20min. This trip would have taken several hours by boat. These flights are truly life impacting!
